Tamoxifen Citrate is a SERM that acts as both an estrogen antagonist and agonist, depending on the tissue. It binds to estrogen receptors in some areas (e.g., breast tissue) to block estrogen activity while acting as estrogen in others (e.g., bones).
Primarily used in treating hormone-responsive breast cancer, Tamoxifen is also widely used by anabolic steroid users during Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) or during cycles to mitigate estrogenic side effects like gynecomastia.
It stimulates testosterone production by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, making it crucial for restoring natural hormone balance after a steroid cycle.
TAMOXIFEN PROFILE
Anabolic Components: None
Androgenic Components: None
Water Retention: None
High Blood Pressure: Rarely occurs
Aromatization Prevention: No (acts as an antagonist but does not prevent aromatization)
Liver Toxicity: Very low
Half-Life: 5–7 days (some reports up to 14 days)
EFFECTS
Prevents Gynecomastia:
Binds to estrogen receptors in breast tissue, preventing estrogenic side effects.
May not provide full protection for all individuals, especially those genetically predisposed to gynecomastia or with high estrogen levels.
For stronger protection, use Aromatase Inhibitors (AI) such as Anastrozole or Letrozole.
Stimulates Testosterone Production:
Boosts LH and FSH levels, aiding in natural testosterone recovery.
Superior testosterone stimulation compared to Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid), based on research from the University of Ghent.
Preserves Lean Muscle Mass: During PCT, it helps maintain muscle gains by supporting hormonal recovery.
Minimal Estrogenic Side Effects: While acting as an estrogen in some tissues (e.g., bones), it avoids significant side effects like bloating or water retention.
DOSAGE AND DURATION
Typical Duration: 4–6 weeks
Mild Dose: 10–20 mg daily
Standard Dose: 10–40 mg daily
For Women: 5–10 mg daily
SIDE EFFECTS
Common Side Effects
Hot Flashes
Upset Stomach
Headaches
Vaginal Discomfort (in women): Includes bleeding, itching, or discharge.
Less Common Side Effects
Rashes
Decreased White Blood Cell Count
Endometrial Changes: Rare but possible with prolonged use.
Increased Triglycerides
Pulmonary Embolism (rare but serious)
Important Note for Women:
Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should never use Tamoxifen Citrate due to the risk of severe harm to the developing child.
STORAGE
Store in a dry place protected from light.
Temperature: 15–25°C.
Keep out of reach of children.
PCT AND STACKING
Post Cycle Therapy (PCT)
Tamoxifen Citrate is often combined with Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid) for effective PCT.
A common PCT protocol might include:
Week 1: Tamoxifen 40 mg/day + Clomid 100 mg/day
Weeks 2–3: Tamoxifen 20 mg/day + Clomid 50 mg/day
Stacking with Proviron
Tamoxifen + Proviron: Used together for enhanced anti-estrogenic effects and improved testosterone recovery.
